A toaster is an appliance that you can buy at the store. You would never think to order the parts for a toaster and make one yourself. On the other hand, a computer is comprised of a set of standard interchangeable parts. The first computer I ever built is not for me (though I'll get around to that at some point). In my time I've learned a lot about how computers work. I've drawn circuit diagrams and made simple virtual processors. But I still have absolutely no understanding for how and why spinning magnets induce a flow of energy that somehow makes these logical designs come to life and transmit in patterns that transofrm into a picture of the day.

One of the best features of open source software is that anyone has the freedom to add whatever features to it that they think would be particularly useful. So if your favourite text editor doesn't do syntax highlighting, you can add it. Today was a long day. There was lots of confusion abound, and my job was to try and clear it out. I'll be at it again tomorrow. For right now, I can relax and enjoy the fact that, although I have no clue what this circuitboard actually does, it makes for an okay picture of the day.
